Il y a cinq ans, soit bien avant les événements de Charlie Hebdo et du Bataclan, Bertrand Bonello (Saint Laurent, CINEMANIA 2014) a scénarisé et filmé l’histoire d’un groupe multiracial de jeunes Parisiens désabusés. Déterminés à ébranler leur ville, ils commettent des assassinats et des bombardements sans toutefois se dire djihadistes : leurs actes ne semblent être justifiés que par un anticapitalisme féroce.
L’approche stylistique de Bonello, sa trame sonore incroyable et sa distribution de belle apparence font de Nocturama un film captivant à écouter. C’est particulièrement le cas lorsque le groupe se retrouve dans un grand magasin luxueux pour la nuit et s’amuse à critiquer la société de consommation. Comme toutes les oeuvres de Bonello, celle-ci est remplie de beauté, de décadence et de somptuosité.

Five years ago, director Bertrand Bonello (Saint Laurent, CINEMANIA 2014), scripted this storyline of a disaffected group of young Parisians who set-out to wreak havoc on their city, and shot Nocturama before the terrible events at Charlie Hebdo and the Bataclan. The multiracial gang he portrays committing bombings and assassinations are not jihadists and apparently have no justification other than that of anti-capitalism.
Auteur Bonello’s stylistic approach, killer soundtrack choices and good-looking cast make the film captivating to watch, especially when the perps finally hole-up overnight in a Paris luxury department store and appear to enjoy play-acting at consumerism. As in all of Bonello’s films, he thrills us with beauty, decadence and sumptuousness.
