The McGill Association of Student Composers (MASC) is proud to announce that New York-based composer and McGill alumnus Taylor Brook will present on his music. Taylor is currently visiting Montreal as a participant in the ECM+ Generation 2016.
This event is open to the public. This promises to be an exciting and insightful presentation - you won't want to miss this!
Canadian composer, Taylor Brook, will present some of his recent musical scores and lead a discussion on his current compositional concerns and interests, focusing on issues around tuning and temperament. Brook's music explores finely tuned microtonal sonorities that aim to elevate musical meaning. To this end, his music employs a range of approaches to just intonation to suggest alternate histories, create chimera-like imaginary music traditions, and reach for uncanny or even magical expression. This presentation will focus on how different methods of pitch organization may achieve these effects and work symbiotically with orchestration, texture, and form.
Time will be left for open discussion and questions.
