A breakout artist on Toronto’s house music circuit, DJ Jeremy Khamkeo has had a love of the genre since his early twenties when he first hit Vancouver’s underground scene. He was drawn to an industry in which people were driven and united by a common love of music, and was fascinated by seeing the energy a DJ shares with his or her crowd. To Jeremy, churning out a high-energy set that sets the mood at a packed party or high-profile event is a thoroughly rewarding thrill.
After moving to Toronto in 2006, Jeremy’s new crowd of listeners ate up his tracks faster than he could put sets together. They gave him validation and helped him realise he had been creating and marketing his own musical style and image and confirmed his potential as a sought-after DJ. Jeremy made the move from hobby to profession in June, 2008, when he took a leap of faith and launched his professional career on the decks during Toronto Pride.
This year has seen Jeremy's career take off, performing at Toronto’s signature circuit event, the PRISM Festival during Pride week, alongside world-renowned talent including Hector Fonseca, Juanjo Martin & Isaac Escalante. The spotlight continued to shine as he took his beats to the streets of downtown Montreal at the Divers/Cité Sunset Dance with Yinon Yahel and David Morales. Such huge exposure and positive feedback from some of the industry's biggest names marked a career milestone for Jeremy and his rise to the top has quickly cemented his reputation as a DJ not to miss.
Amid his newfound success Jeremy remains modest, taking one day at a time. He loves what he does, and says the positive response from his fans is reward enough. He’s been influenced by and aspires to be as influential as big names artists Tony Moran, Peter Rauhofer, Paulo, Isaac Escalante & Ana Paula but he’s one DJ who’s truly in the business for his love of beats. While music continues to be Jeremy’s passion, he says spinning a perfect set remains a constant challenge – deciding how and when to place both cutting-edge tracks and seasoned crowd favourites to create that special moment of goosebumps on the dance floor. And if taking Canada's house scene by storm hasn’t been enough to keep Jeremy going, he doesn’t rule out becoming more deeply involved in the industry in the future, perhaps in a producing role.
