For our first meeting in June, we will have a barbecue in Parc Angrignon (http://www1.ville.montreal.qc.ca/banque311/node/646).
We will meet by the metro. In our usual manner, please try to be there within 15 minutes of the start time or else call or text me, as usual. Then we can walk and find a barbecue pit and picnic tables to call our own.
Please bring food and drink, enough for yourself at least, some to share if you like. It would be nice if we could coordinate to have a little potluck, if someone could bring a salad, another a desert, etc. The general rule of thumb is to bring enough as though that were all you were eating. And then we share. Again, people can let others know what they will bring in the comments, so we don't end up with too much of one thing. (If you prefer to bring just something for yourself to roast on the BBQ, that is fine too. You are not obliged to participate in the potluck.)
They have barbecue pits but we need to bring charcoal. Can someone volunteer to bring some? Please let's discuss this and confirm it in the comment section. Others can contribute a little money towards that.
Can someone bring a Fußball? I have a frisbee I can bring.
If the weather is bad, we can meet at my apartment in Verdun, very close to the park.

KOSTEN: Ich möchte für die Teilnahme am Meet-up keine Gebühr erheben, aber mir entstehen für die Benutzung der Meet-up-Seite Kosten. Diesen Monat erhöhen sie die Gebühren für größere Gruppen wie diese. (Ich wende auch Zeit für die Organisation und Verwaltung der Gruppe auf.) Statt einer festen Gebühr möchte ich daher um eine Spende bitten. Es wäre schön, wenn Du ein paar Dollar geben könntest, vielleicht so einen Dollar pro Treffen, oder seltener ein bisschen mehr. Das würde die Gebühren, die sie mir berechnen, ausgleichen.
FEES: I don't want to charge people to take part in meet-ups but I pay to use the Meetup.com website. This month they are increasing the fees for larger groups, such as this one. (I also spend some time organizing and administering the group.) What I ask instead of a set fee is a suggested donation. If you can give a few dollars that would help, maybe a dollar or so per meeting or a bit more less often. This would help offset the fees they charge me.

Fortgeschrittene sind herzlich willkommen (insbesondere Muttersprachler), aber bitte helft uns das Gespräch so zu gestalten, dass es nicht nur ein Zwiegespräch zwischen zwei Experten wird. Wir sind ein Team. Wir machen das wie eine deutsche Fußballmannschaft: Wenn Du eine Weile gesprochen hast, gib den Ball ab an jemanden, der in letzter Zeit wenig gesagt hat. (Und wie ein guter Trainer, lass uns erst berücksichtigen, wie gut jemand überhaupt Deutsch sprechen kann, bevor wir allzu sehr kritisieren. Wenn jemand große Schwierigkeiten hat, durch einen Satz hindurchzukommen, berichtige ein oder zwei Sachen, nicht jedes kleine Detail. Wir wollen Erfolg belohnen und Teamfähigkeiten aufbauen.)
More advanced speakers are more than welcome (especially native speakers) but please help us manage the conversation so it doesn't turn into a pro tennis match bouncing between two advanced speakers. This is a team activity. Let's play like the German football team. If you've been talking for a while, please pass the ball to someone who hasn't said anything for a while. (And like a good coach, let's try to evaluate how someone's overall skill set it before becoming too teacherly. If someone is having a hard time getting through a sentence, give them feedback on one or two things, not every little detail. We want to foster success and build up the team skills.)
FÜR ANFÄNGER: Falls Du gerade erst angefangen hast, empfehle ich Dir, den Deutschkurs auf www.duolingo.com zwei oder drei Mal vollständig zu durchlaufen, bevor Du bei uns mitmachst. Oder Du widmest Dich mit entsprechendem Zeitaufwand einem Programm Deiner Wahl für ungefähr eine Stunde am Tag für sechs Monate (zum Beispiel: http://www.dw.de/). Danach bist Du herzlich willkommen, in unserer Gesprächsrunde diese Grundlage in die Praxis umzusetzen.
BEGINNERS: If you are just starting, I recommend you do the full German course at www.duolingo.com two or three times before joining us. Or put in the equivalent effort into a programme of your choosing for about an hour a day for six months (e.g. http://www.dw.de/). Then you are more than welcome to put that foundation into practice with the conversation group.
