You want to discover burlesque or improve your skills? Bagel Burlesque Expo is happy to propose 3 different workshops taught by top-notched instructors on Saturday, April 22nd. All Workshops take place at Studio 88 Swing (7243 Rue St-Hubert).
12.15pm - 2.15pm : FUCK 'EM IN THE HEART! Acting Burlesque With Instructor TIGGER! (en anglais seulement / in english only) - 35$/person
Build a larger-than-life Burlesque Persona with Tigger! and take your stage identity to the next level. Tigger! is a recognized pioneer of the current burlesque scene and has been an actor all his life, "acting like a stripper" for 20 years. Using his degree in theater, his experience teaching college acting classes, and over 30 years on the stage (both Shakespeare & Shimmy), he employs his theatrical training and perspective to break down what makes a burlesque performer stand out from the herd. Whatever you do in front of ANY kind of an audience, you are an actor. Learn techniques and tips to make the most of what you've got. This class involves lecture and movement, so be prepared to take notes and to move!
Actor/Dancer/Stripperformance artist Tigger! has been "acting like a stripper" since 1992 and remains a leading influence in the world burlesque scene. He won the first ever "King of Boylesque" title at Burlesque Hall of Fame in Las Vegas. Called, "hysterical and acrobatic" and "wickedly arch" by The New York Times, he has acted in Shakespeare, Apollinaire, Wedekind, Horváth, and Tennessee Williams and has performed in Italy, Denmark, Cyprus, England, Hungary, Netherlands, Sweden, Portugal, France, Mexico, Canada, and all around the U.S.
2.30pm - 4pm : Bump'n'Grind basics for beginners! With Instructor Lou on the Rocks (bilingue / bilingual) - 25$/person
Lou on the Rocks is an international burlesque performer based in Berlin, Germany, famous for her exotica touch, her happy and wild shake! She's been teaching burlesque for beginners since 5 years all over Europe.
In this workshop you will learn the basics of Bump'n'Grind. Essential moves inspired by the Burlesque Stars of the 50's and hints to find your wild energy and meet your inner tigress!
All in a dynamic and fun atmosphere!
So Bring your gloves, gym clothes or sexy lingerie (i don't recommand corset as we'll need to move our hips!), comfortable high heels and of course your pretty smile!
4.15pm – 5.15pm : Developing and Building the Best Costume for Your Act With Instructor Mary Strawberry (en anglais seulement / in english only) - 20$/person
Mary Strawberry uses her experience of over a decade of making clothing and costumes to discuss the important things to consider when creating the right costume for your act, including functionality, durability, materials, and building methods. I share some of the unique pieces I've created for myself in a show-and-tell format for inspiration and hands-on learning.
Mary Strawberry is an internationally known award winning Atlanta, GA based theater artist. She finds herself at home both on the stage and behind it, and can be found sharing her art across North America. Whether performing, designing, building, or teaching, she is sure to inspire. Mary is a member of the Mayhem Femmes and the award-winning Greater Atlanta Goddess Society.
