La légendaire troupe La Pocha Nostra, reconnue pour son esthétique robo-baroque/cyborg-kitsch et son humour caustique, y va de sa toute dernière création : Uroborus, œuvre conçue et interprétée par Guillermo Gómez-Peña, célèbre artiste, écrivain, metteur en scène et militant radical, Saul Garcia-Lopez, interprète, metteur en scène et pédagogue d’avant-garde et Balitronica Gomez, interprète et poète cyborg.
Séance d’improvisation artistique, hautement énergique et présentée en direct, Uroborus souhaite ardemment réinventer les identités. La troupe explore, au moyen d’un amalgame de gestes chamaniques et psychomagiques des plus audacieux, la force politique derrière les corps qui défient les conventions : le corps qui vieillit, la fluidité du genre ou la dissidence du corps, l’ethnicité, le corps comme objet de racisme et le corps (non) entraîné. L’œuvre se veut un véritable appel aux armes contre le conformisme excessif et la violence.
Organisation artistique transdisciplinaire, La Pocha Nostra accorde une importance toute particulière à la collaboration au-delà des frontières nationales, des races, des genres et des générations. La quête identitaire est souvent nourrie par un besoin de trouver un lieu auquel nous appartenons. En 2017, la notion de lieu sera capitale au Canada. Les récits ayant particulièrement trait à l’appartenance et à la cohésion sociale revêtiront une importance cruciale. Prendre place est une série portant sur les arts performatifs qui réunit sous un même toit huit artistes exceptionnels issus des quatre coins du monde au moment précis où la notion de lieu devient singulièrement pertinente. Lieu de résidence, géographie, attachement territorial. Communauté. La série Prendre place a en outre été conçue pour faire référence aux droits civils et aux mouvements de libération qui ont trait à l’inclusion. Il s’agit de prendre sa place au moment où la notion d’équité est toute aussi déterminante. Intersection, identité sociale et frontières indéfinies.

Uroborus the latest performance by legendary troupe La Pocha Nostra, known for its “robo-baroque/cyborg-kitsch” aesthetic and acid humor. Uroborus is conceived and performed by renowned artist, writer, director, and radical activist Guillermo Gómez-Peña, along with avant-garde performance artist, director and pedagogue Saul Garcia-Lopez, and performer/cyborg poet Balitronica Gomez.
Uroborus is a “high-energy live-art jam session” that dreams for the reinvention of our identities. Using daring shamanic and psychomagic actions, the troupe explores the body politics of non-normative bodies: the aging body, the gender fluid and/or dissident body, ethnic, racialised, and the (un)trained body. The performance is a call to arms against extreme conservatism and violence.
La Pocha Nostra, is a transdisciplinary arts organization focused on collaboration across national borders, race, gender and generations. It has been considered by critics to be “_the most influential Latino performance art troupe of the last 10 years._” (El Pais, Spain.)

The search for who we are is often fuelled by a need to find a place where we belong. The notion of place in Canada in 2017 will be significant. Narratives particular to belonging and to social cohesion will be critical. Taking Place is a performance art series conceived as a means to group together eight significant performance artists from around the globe under one roof precisely at a time when the notion of place becomes especially relevant. Place as address, as geography, as territorial attachment. Community. Taking Place was also conceived as a means to reference civil rights and liberation movements, of inclusiveness. Taking one’s place at a time when the notion of equity is equally as climacteric. Intersection, social identity and indefinite borders.
