British author Carlton Reid will be talking about his best-selling book Roads Were Not Built For Cars. This is a cycling history book but it was #1 in the automotive category on Amazon.com. Why automotive? Because the 330-page book reveals how pushy and progressive tech-fixated cyclists were the pioneers of motoring. Before motoring existed many of these same cyclists were the first to push for Good Roads, in the UK, in the US and in Canada. The first edition was originally a funding success on Kickstarter, and sold out almost immediately when it became available online. A revised second edition has now been published by Island Press of Washington, D.C. – Carlton is in Montreal for a North American book tour. After this special Encore du Monde à bicyclette event he leaves for the US to give a talk at the Congressional Bike Caucus and is then travelling on to California to ride with mountain bike innovator Joe Breeze and give a talk at the new Marin Museum of Bicycling.
