Les historiens commencent à prendre les animaux au sérieux. Trois des auteurs ayant contribué au livre Animal Metropolis : Histories of Human-Animal Relations in Urban Canada (University of Calgary Press, 2017) discutent de leurs travaux dans ce champs de recherche en expansion. Sherry Olson (Unversité McGill) tracera comment les chevaux du XIXe siècle ont donné forme aux rues de Montréal; Christabelle Sethna (Université d’Ottawa) se penchera sur la mémorialisation de Jumbo l’éléphant à Saint-Thomas, Ontario; et Joanna Dean (Université de Carleton) mettra en lumière l’assemblage du tétanos, des chevaux, des humains et des cobayes dans les Connaught Laboratories de Toronto.
Ce lancement est présenté dans le cadre de l’exposition "Le temps presse : une contre-histoire environnementale du Canada moderne".

Historians are beginning to take animals seriously. Three contributors to Animal Metropolis: Histories of Human-Animal Relations in Urban Canada (University of Calgary Press, 2017) discuss their research in the growing field. Sherry Olson (McGill University) will speak on how nineteenth-century horses shaped the streets of Montreal; Christabelle Sethna (University of Ottawa), on the memorialization of Jumbo the elephant in Saint Thomas, Ontario; and Joanna Dean (Carleton University), on the assemblage of tetanus, horses, humans, and guinea pigs in Toronto’s Connaught Laboratories.
This launch is held in conjunction with the exhibition "It’s All Happening So Fast: A Counter-History of the Modern Canadian Environment".
