Atelier Sacred Harp / FREE
This workshop will focus on the rudiments of Sacred Harp singing - a centuries old but still living tradition of a capella choral hymn singing in a four-shape notation system. This kind of singing is participatory, community based and designed for untrained voices. All levels of skill and musical ability are welcome. There is no audience and no choir master. These hymns, odes and anthems are very powerful. At times energetic at times solemn and slower,--always very pleasing to the soul. Expect loud discordant fervent singing about rivers of blood and being a mortal worm and panting for heaven, nature lying in ruins and your enemies being plunged deep into endless pain.
Aldo Thomas Ceresa is a dedicated singer, composer, and student of the Sacred Harp tradition. Aldo teaches at Camp Fasola, a summer camp workshop for Sacred Harp singers with sessions held annually in Alabama, and bi-annually in Chielmno, Poland. He has also taught singing schools across the United States and Europe, and has been a guest lecturer at Yale University, Brooklyn College, University College Cork, and elsewhere. Closer to home, Aldo is active in the singing community of Greater New York, where he continues to help organize local singing events. His compositions appear in The Sacred Harp, revised Cooper edition, Northern Harmony, and Shenandoah Harmony; as well as in several issues of The Trumpet. Several of his tunes have also been recorded and performed in concert by Northern Harmony, folk and bluegrass multi-instrumentalist Rick Cunningham, and other artists.

The Sala Rossa is located on the second floor (there are 38 steps total). There are gender neutral washrooms which are not wheelchair accessible. We have a Hearing Assistance System on the FM dial at 101.1 FM. Anyone needing assistance accessing our space can contact us as we are more than happy to try and accommodate people to the best of our ability.
