I plan to start by talking about my process and my thoughts on landscape painting.I will paint a small demo the first morning to show my process for starting a landscape, how I work over the entire canvas in order to develop the painting as a unified whole, working on the land, trees, water, and sky so the painting develops with a cohesive feeling and not as separate parts. I begin by blocking in the painting so the whole canvas is covered and feels right within the first half-hour and then move on to build upon this base, working with the drawing of the landscape, with the shapes, values, and color. I will describe how I see, and how I simplify what I see, how to focus on the design and values which will give your work a sense of completeness, throughout the process. I will also talk about my process of taking landscape paintings back into the field for several sittings to complete larger paintings. Each day in the workshop I would like everyone to paint at least one painting in the morning and one in the afternoon. I will walk around and work with each artist one-on-one. I will be very available and open to any questions, and will help and/or demonstrate how I would try to solve any challenges you might be having. I will also be happy to paint as many demo paintings as students request. Titanium white, Cad yellow lemon, cad yellow light or med.,naples yellow, yellow ocher, transparent red oxide, cad red light, alizarin crimson, cerulean blue, cobalt blue and ultra marine blue. II also add cobalt violet as well as kings blue. Both mixable but convenient colors I like. Sometimes I add Viridian Green I use flats as brushes number 4, 6, 8 and 10 as well as a small round 4 or 6 Odorless mineral spirits and I use walnut alkyd medium
