70 Chords for Terry
Montreal’s Quatuor Bozzini will present two concerts featuring the music by Alvin Lucier and Pauline Oliveros. These two concerts will be exploring the sonic phenomenon and the science of sound. Many of Alvin Lucier’s compositions are influenced by science and explore the physical properties of sound. Often highlighting the resonance of spaces and phase interference between closely tuned pitches, Lucier’s works are where music and the physics of sound meet.
The first concert, on Saturday, May 30 will include innovative works performed by the members of the Quatuor Bozzini that include electronics, most notably sign tone generators. The second concert on Sunday, May 31 will feature Lucier’s acoustic works for string quartet as well as Pauline Oliveros’s 70 Chords for Terry: A Meditation on String Theory written in celebration of composer Terry Riley’s seventieth birthday. Come welcome the Quatuor Bozzini and join them in this investigation of the nature of sound.
