ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
CHANDA M is the nom de plume of Mona Lissa Chanda, a Ph.D. in Psychology who has published scientific papers on the neurochemistry of music together with New York Times best-selling author Dr. Daniel J. Levitin (This is Your Brain On Music). As a trained classical and jazz singer, Mona Lissa has performed on many local stages (e.g. House Of Jazz, Upstairs Bar & Grill, Just For Laughs Festival) and collaborated with Juno Award-winning producer, Rob Heaney (Cirque du Soleil, Patrick Watson). Under the moniker Chanda M she creates highly melodic, lyrically-driven art pop infused with electro-ambient sounds. Her haunting vocal style and penchant for story telling draw comparisons to Kate Bush, St. Vincent, Bat For Lashes and Bjork. The "Icons of Dreams" EP was produced by Raphael Rosenwald (early collaborator of members of The Dears and Arcade Fire) and Michael Rien of Primal Urge Productions. The "Ghostwriter" music video (out on Oct. 14th) was directed by Alexx Pacifici.
ULTRA K is a Mexican singer-songwriter based in Montréal. She has a unique style that combines her rock-pop roots with electronics, jazz, funk, dub, and even opera, something she likes to call ULTRIP-HOP. Her first major appearance on the scene was in 1996, in Mexico City, as an opener for the legendary band Garbage, when she was only 17 years old.
Today she plays electronic instruments as genuine toys of creation, having the skills to make her percussions blend with world beats in a very deep organic mode. Karina's vocal improvisations bring you to an ULTRASONIK dimension within a universe of hypnotizing melodies, harmonies and sounds--a journey into multicultural perceptions of human mind, outer space adventures and love stories.
JAZZOTOPES is a Nordic jazz pop fusion formation founded in 2013 by Mari Sild - an Estonian pianist, singer and composer.
Mari's playing has been described as "Silky, wavelike... So full of Baltic good sorcery... Through her fingers she conveys something of the pastoral magic of Estonia and of its maritime energy.. with the purity of the Nordic light.." Jazzotopes started in 2013 with Mari Sild (voice, piano, compositions), François Payen (upright and electric bass) and Trevor Zaa (drums). They quickly developed a large repertoire and started creating buzz in the Montréal jazz-pop-indie scene. Jazzotopes have perfromed at House of Jazz, Upstairs Jazz Bar, legendary Club Balattou, Theatre Rialto, burlesque venue Wiggle room and numerous other Montréal venus and festivals.
