Our multidisciplinary 1-year anniversary edition features the acclaimed creators Michael Renaud, VP and Creative Director at the online music mecca Pitchfork, interactive film director Vincent Morisset known for his ground-breaking digital collaborations with the Arcade Fire and the NFB, as well as celebrated Wiretap alumna and independent radio producer Mira Burt-Wintonick. Our Vol. 5 panel will explore the intersection of sound and vision in storytelling - how does our choice of medium affect the creative process, or a story’s impact once it’s out in the world? With so many media options available, from Snapchat, to radio, limited-edition prints and everything in between, how do we choose the most powerful format to craft our stories? Are digital stories better than lo-fi ones? Join us for an exploration of these questions and more on October 20th. Michael Renaud is the Vice President and Creative Director of Pitchfork, music’s most trusted voice. He oversees the day-to-day operations of the organization, and most specifically, the team that visualizes the website on a day-to-day basis, in addition to their two festivals in Paris and Chicago, their film site The Dissolve, and their quarterly print publication, The Pitchfork Review. The design of such endeavors has led to many Webbys, 2014’s Society of Publication Design’s Brand of the Year, a National Magazine Award for digital excellence, a spot on Ad Age's Creativity 50 list, and AIGA’s Corporate Design Leadership Award. Michael has interviewed countless designers on his live talk show The Show N Tell Show, and has spoken on the subject of design inspiration all around the world. Vincent Morisset is a director and the founder of Montreal AATOAA studio. During the last decade, he pioneered interactive music videos for Arcade Fire (Neon Bible, Sprawl II, Just a Reflektor). He also directed two feature films, MIROIR NOIR and the documentary INNI on Sigur Rós. With the support of the NFB, in collaboration with Philippe Lambert, Édouard Lanctôt-Benoit and Caroline Robert, Vincent Morisset and his team created the award-winning interactive film BLA BLA. Way to Go, is the second original production the versatile small team made with the NFB. Their work has been presented at the Museum of the Moving Image, the MOMA, Gaîté lyrique, the National Taiwan Museum and at many festivals including Venice, Rotterdam, SXSW and IDFA. Vincent is also the instigator of the Digital Storytelling Manifesto. Mira Burt-Wintonick is an award-winning radio producer and documentary filmmaker. For 10 years, she helped shape CBC's WireTap, in collaboration with host Jonathan Goldstein, producing, writing, editing and mixing the weekly program. WireTap recently won Best Original Radio Drama at the 2015 Prix Italia. Also in 2015, a video Mira produced, How To Age Gracefully, garnered 20 million views in its first month. She is currently working on a feature documentary about her late father, filmmaker Peter Wintonick, and his search for Utopia.
