IV. Through (blazing) conflicts and V. Through (indestructible) desires

The Galerie de l’UQAM and the Cinémathèque québécoise, in partnership with the Musée du Jeu de Paume in Paris, present
Soulèvements, by the curator and art historian Georges Didi-Huberman. Already presented in Paris, Barcelone, Buenos Aires,Sao Paulo and Mexico, the exhibit takes place in two locations, at the Cinémathèque québécoise and at the Galerie de l'UQAM. Its multidisciplinary approach emphasises what testifies of political, social and
aesthetic uprisings. What
does uprise us? Forces: psychic, bodily, social. Through them we transform immobility into
movement, overwhelm into energy, submission into revolt, le renunciation into
expansive joy (Georges Didi-Huberman). The exhibit is accompanied by movies, which navigate between documentary, political movie, fiction and experimental movie, thus telling a brief crossing of cinema history.

The Uprisings exhibit is organized by the Jeu de Paume, Paris, and directed by the Galerie de l’UQAM and the Cinémathèque québécoise for its presentation in Montréal.

Exposition | Colombie : une terre mutilée d'Alexis Aubin

October 10, 2018 - November 4, 2018
Maison du développement durable 50, rue Sainte-Catherine Ouest
free

NORMAL DESIRES, Emile Pineault's new creation

NORMAL DESIRES, Emile Pineault's new creation

November 23, 2018
La Chapelle Scènes Contemporaines 3700 Saint-Dominique
20$

In Normal Desires, Emile
Pineault invites us to open ourselves to acrobatic sensation. A lone
figure on stage constantly overflows itself, its edges blurred in
kinetic ecstasy. Impact, flux, repetition, constraint, squeezing,
pushing, heat, vibration – Pineault’s work moves us through a series of
states and affective spaces, mobilizing not only the body but also the
powerful technologies of the theatre space to convey a subtle yet
intense physical experience.

Emile Pineault is an experienced circus artist, and in this first
solo work he takes a critical look at the conventions of acrobatic
practice. Here, the circus body in no longer in a position of mastery
but rather criss-crossed with lines of irresistible force. A deep
engagement with light, sound, created live by Julien Brun and Joël
Lavoie, and physical practice works towards the mediation of an
acrobat’s ‘inner-motion’, proposing acrobatics as a shared experience –
fleshy, rigorous, and intensely hypnotizing.

Direction and performance : Emile Pineault

Lighting and set design : Julien Brun

Sound design : Joël Lavoie

Dramaturgic advisor : Sebastian Kann
