Profondément marquée et inspirée par les sculptures de Rodin qu’elle découvre à Paris, la chorégraphe nonagénaire Anna Halprin donne expression, dans une nouvelle création, à son espoir pour la vie et pour l’humanité. Elle se sert des sculptures de l’artiste pour étudier avec les corps nus de danseurs du Sea Ranch Collective des chorégraphies sensuelles impressionnantes sur les plages et dans les forêts de Californie. Après «Breath Made Visible» le film «Journey in Sensuality» offre un aperçu du processus artistique d’Anna Halprin, de son affinité avec Rodin ainsi que de l’amour de la nature pratiqué par son collectif. La musique du film a été écrite par le célèbre compositeur Fred Frith.
Le film sera précédé d’une brève introduction. Suite à sa représentation, un échange de type questions-réponses aura lieu avec Lucie Beaudry, professeure au Département de danse à l'UQAM, et Lakshmi Aysola, collaboratrice de longue date d’Anna Halprin et directrice associée/création chez ZAS Films.
Lakshmi Aysola est danseuse et membre du Sea Ranch Collective depuis sa fondation. Elle a travaillé auprès d’Anna Halprin sur une série de spectacles présentés à l'étranger et a eu comme professeurs de grands danseurs butoh dont Min Tanaka au Japon, Eiko et Koma à New York et Oguri à Los Angeles. Lakshmi apparaît dans Journey in Sensuality et a travaillé en étroite collaboration avec le réalisateur Ruedi Gerber.
Lucie Beaudry est professeure en études théorico-pratiques des formations corporelles et somatiques au Département de danse de l’UQAM. Entre autres formations, elle détient une certification en Movement-based Expressive Arts Education and Therapy de l’Institut Tamalpa, cofondé par Anna et Daria Halprin (Californie), où elle a aussi étudié Movement Ritual créé par Anna Halprin.

After the international success of Breath Made Visible, Journey in Sensuality brings new insight into Anna Halprin’s influential artistic work. Auguste Rodin's sculptures and Anna Halprin's creative process come together with the music of composer Fred Frith in this poetic film of dances in nature.
This one-hour film, Journey in Sensuality – Anna Halprin and Rodin, offers for the first time ever in her 70+-year career, an intimate view into Anna Halprin's creative process and the making of a performance. It shows how she prepares the dancer, using Rodin's sculptures as a container, to create a performance that is at once authentic and visually powerful and touches the audience on an emotional level. The movement of the dancers and images of Rodin sculptures are supported by the brilliant, innovative score by composer, Fred Frith.
There will be a short introduction before the film. After the movie, a Q&A session will be held with Lucie Beaudry, professor at UQAM’s Dance Department, and Lakshmi Aysola, Anna Halprin’s long-time collaborator and Associate Creative Director at ZAS Films.
Lakshmi Aysola is a long time collaborator with Anna Halprin as an original member of the Sea Ranch Collective as well as working with her on a series of performances that were presented internationally. She has studied and performed with some of the foremost butoh dancers including Min Tanaka in Japan, Eiko and Koma in New York and Oguri in Los Angeles. She is Associate Creative Director at ZAS Films and has worked closely with Ruedi Gerber on Journey in Sensuality as well as appeared in the film.
Lucie Beaudry is a professor at UQAM’s Dance Department. Her field of expertise is theoretical-practical studies of bodily and somatic practices. Her academic and professional training includes a Certificate in Movement-based Expressive Arts Education and Therapy from the Tamalpa Institute, co-founded by Anna and Daria Halprin (California), where she also studied the Movement Ritual created by Anna Halprin.
