A native of Switzerland, singer and composer Helena Allan is blazing a trail into contemporary acoustic jazz by blending her European musical influences with the Afro-American heritage that is so dear to her. A true sound stylist, she is living proof that the art of vocal jazz continues to evolve.
She is accompanied by a remarkable duo that includes pianist Jérome Beaulieu (Révélation de Radio-Canada/Jazz, 2013) and Olivier Babaz (double bass).
On the program: Allan’s original compositions, particularly those based on the poetry of Maya Angelou, compositions by Carmen Lundy and Elisabeth Kontomanou, rediscovered works by Herbie Hancock and Bobby Hutcherson, Thelonius Monk and even works from the disco era, which the trio handles as the standards of tomorrow…
A ravishing collective creativity and a voice that none can resist.
