Between rituals of emancipation and alpine folklore, this work by Simon Mayer transports us to a village somewhere in Tyrol. Progressively, he draws us into a Schuhplattler with his posse, scratching the surface of his peasant roots, revealing the meaning of heritage within the framework of liberation. With humour and audacity, the choreographer takes a fresh look at tradition and what it says about his country, giving us an opportunity to discover this Austrian prodigy.
→ Dancer, choreographer, performer and musician, Simon Mayer grew up on a farm before studying at the Ballet of the National Opera in Vienna, and then later at P.A.R.T.S. He danced for Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Wim Vandekeybus and Zita Swoon before developing his own work. His creations, halfway between contemporary dance, Austrian folk dances, electronic music and traditional yodels are presented around the world.
