Known as "Canada's Art Blakey", hard-driving bebop master Norman Marshall Villeneuve is a Canadian jazz legend. From the beginning, Norm honed his playing and leadership styles after Art Blakey. Following Mr. Blakey's death in 1991, Norm created his banner, Norman Marshall Villeneuve's Jazz Message, and has dedicated tribute concerts to his mentor in Toronto and Montreal for 24 years.
Norm grew up in Montreal's Little Burgundy. He has performed with jazz royalty: Duke Ellington, Curtis Fuller, Cootie Williams, Wayne Shorter, Junior Mance and Oliver Jones, and toured throughout North and South America.
Celebrating his 7th decade in music, Norm remains an active and beloved leader on the Canadian Jazz scene.
