Jason Sharp s'est imposé comme l'une des figures les plus fascinantes de la nouvelle musique canadienne. Le compositeur s'est fait connaitre dans la scène d'avant-jazz et d'improvisation montréalaise en tant que saxophoniste. Sa pratique solo l'a mené à expérimenter les limites entre le corps et la technologie, les techniques de respiration circulaire, et les compositions «fleuves». Son plus récent album, Stand Above The Streams sous l'étiquette Constellation Records, pousse ses explorations encore plus loin. Une interface MIDI personnalisée lui permit de modifier et d'amplifier les battements de son coeur, ses respirations ainsi que son saxophone. La matière sonore fut ensuite retravaillée en temps réel, en collaboration avec l'artiste et designer sonore Adam Basanta.
Sharp amènera l'auditoire dans une expérience instrumentale immersive aux confluents du drone, de la musique électronique, électro-acoustique, free jazz et noise.

Stand Above the Streams album launch.

Jason Sharp has emerged as one of Canada's most fascinating New Music composers in recent years. From his roots as a saxophonist in Montreal's fertile avant-jazz and improv scenes, Sharp developed as a soloist with drone-based durational music, circular breathing, and an increasing exploration of the body and technology. His stunning new album Stand Above The Streams comes out February 23 on Constellation Records and features a collaboration with sound installation artist Adam Basanta to complement Sharp’s own customized MIDI and synthesis apparatuses that process and amplify his heart beat, breathing and saxophone playing.
Sharp is thrilled to premiere this new work in what is sure to be a gripping and immersive instrumental music voyage through electro-acoustic drone, melody, microtone and rhythmic pulse: systems music with a beating heart.
