https://panopticoneyelids1.bandcamp.com/ Some where in a collection of music, there is dusty CD belonging to a bearded hipster, smeared with the lipstick of a former girl friend in memory of a good night out to see a local band. Like ex-lovers, some bands nowadays don’t connect between themselves on stage or even exist after one album. But there are a few bands that pulled it together musically and didn’t succumb to the social hype in the counterculture scene and then suffered from disillusionment. Those few bands that came out unscathed, sidestepped wannabe promoters who would’ve pimped their talent to a crowd of teens for less than a taxi fare home. From the splendor of modern music, came a saturated market of sound and an industry that nurtures celebritism. Endurance maybe credible, or else creativity gives you freedom for failure, but a weak artist afraid to embrace strong minds may never have the stature of a veteran. One such strong-minded band of veteran musicians that negated the glamour and excitation of college-rock for experimentation and free improvisation was Montréal’s Panopticon Eyelids. Connecting them to sonic disorder, they produced six releases and the final report of their legacy grooved a vinyl with a neo-psychedelic style.
If you missed out on seeing that band, then you need to know something about them in the local Montréal music scene. After a hiatus lasting several years, Sébastien Fournier and Éric Gingras (Avec le Soleil Sortant de sa Bouche) have reunited again with their former band mates Félix Morel (No Negative) and Michel Meunier for a tenth anniversary reunion of Cronus with poet and electronic composer Steve Godin.
