Juri Rechinsky fait le grand saut cinématographique en 2013 avec son documentaire-choc Sickfuckpeople. Suivra en 2017 son premier long, Ugly, retenu dans la section Bright Future du Festival international de Rotterdam. Protégé du cinéaste et producteur autrichien Ulrich Seidl, ce talent montant ose déjà des sujets difficiles racontés avec une maîtrise visuelle célébrée par l'incontournable Variety.

Le triptyque documentaire observe un groupe d’enfants sans-abri qui ont trouvé refuge dans une cave à Odessa. Leur seul but dans la vie est de combler leur prochaine intoxication médicamenteuse. Cependant, sur le chemin vers l’âge adulte, ils essaient de trouver un moyen de sortir de ce néant. Un adolescent va à la recherche de sa mère. Une société surréaliste plein de haine et de colère l’attend dans son lieu d’origine. Une jeune fille veut amener son enfant à naître au monde, même si sa progéniture fait probablement face à une enfance pire que la sienne, mais ses sœurs exigent qu’elle avorte le bébé.
Sickfuckpeople est la version longue étendue du court documentaire du même nom.

A documentary triptych about a group of homeless kids, who have survived their drug-addicted childhood, grew up and start to live an adult life. It’s a story about a boy facing the surreal, degenerated society of his native village full of hate and sadistic anger while searching for his mother. It’s a story about a pregnant girl who wants to give birth to her child whose childhood will probably be even worse then hers. But her own sisters are forcing her to have an abortion.
