Dans l'installation vidéo multicanale intitulée Love is a Whole Other Creature, Maia Iotzova présente les facettes d'un monde rempli d'amour où 60 individus de Sofia, de Montréal, de Toronto et de Rijeka nous communiquent ce que l'amour signifie pour eux. Des images de l'univers de l'artiste ponctuent cette production. La dispersion d'images en mouvement dans l'espace galerie propose un lien ténu avec la distribution géographique des participants, et le désir de gommer les dissimilitudes n'a comme seul objectif de comprendre les nuances que l'autre apporte au tableau.
Cinéaste et artiste médiatique passionnée installée à Montréal, Maia Iotzova a grandi à Sofia en Bulgarie. La plupart de ses oeuvres, documentaires et projets Web, explorent notre relation intime avec la nature dans le contexte urbain. Un regard porté sur la nature laissée en friche, les terrains vacants ou abandonnés. Rien à voir avec les parcs aménagés.

Originally from Sofia, Bulgaria, Maia Iotzova is a Montreal-based filmmaker and media artist. In the multi-channel video installation Love is a Whole Other Creature, she presents facets of a world of love, as 60 individuals from Sofia,
Montreal, Toronto, and Rijeka tell us what love means to them. Interspersed throughout are images from the artist’s life and world. The dispersion of images through the gallery space loosely figures the participants’ geographical distribution, and the attempt to bridge the distance is none other than the attempt to understand one-another for the nuances each of us
brings to the picture.
Much of Iotzova’s work to date, including documentary films and web-based projects, has dealt with our relationship with urban nature, not the landscaped parks, but the unkempt spaces and sometimes abandoned “vacant” lots.
