Never Apart will be hosting a daytime talk at our Centre during regular Open House hours alongside Maxine Walters and 'Black Heritage' curator Andy Williams (DJ).
Maxine Walters is something of a Jamaican dancehall legend, having amassed a collection of some 4,000 handpainted street signs over the past 35 years. Treated by most Jamaicans as simply a fact of life, the dancehall poster has until recently received little careful, critical attention, but is now considered a legitimate cultural practice that many of us have taken for granted.
Her recent book, 'Serious Things a Go Happen: Three Decades of Jamaican Dancehall Signs', will be available for purchase at a special Open House price of $36.00.
