After his impressive debut performance here at Velvet 12 months ago, we are delighted to welcome back Eyetone boss and London based DEMI.
Demi’s instincts as a DJ became evident at the turn of the millenium with a 3 month summer residency in Indonesia's premier venue Double Six which served as his training ground performing the true role as resident DJ and having to learn his craft fast over extended sets three nights a week to a full house of locals and tourists.
Upon his return in 2001 to his homeland in the UK, those instincts were exposed to a much wider and more tuned audience after becoming a national finalist in a competition which was run by the influential Mixmag magazine and superbrand Cream to find their new resident.
A tide of momentum followed with his own Deeper Substance nights in London which brought in a host of special guests including Lee Burridge, Hernan Cattaneo, Clive Henry and Groove Armada, along with breakthrough showcases and international dates performing alongside some of the greats including Laurent Garnier, Danny Tenaglia, Danny Howells among others.
Notable bi-monthly residencies followed in Toronto (Boa) and Montreal (Stereo) which left an indelible print on the thriving scene that was bubbling in Canada. 2004 concluded with recognition from his peers that came in the form of two nominations for Best Breakthrough and Best Newcomer DJ at the House Music Awards and DJ Pacha Ibiza Awards respectively.
Culminating with the milestone achievement of a 3 hour Radio One Essential Mix with the SOS The Collective in 2006, made up of fellow sonic mavericks: Omid 16B and Desyn Masiello. The triumvate went on to score world tours with sell-out shows from Tokyo, to Ibiza, London and at the Miami WMC. A nomination for Best Newcomer Act followed at the Pacha Ibiza DJ Awards and along with two critically acclaimed SOS compilations: “Balance 013” (2008) & “Ministry of Sound presents SOS” (2010); two timeless pieces demonstrating musical synergy at its force, and forever etching its mark on dance music's legacy.
His debut solo mix compilation in 2011 “Sounds like Alola Volume 2” is an astounding sonic collage of the seminal deep house label’s rich back catalogue. Piecing the past, present and future together, this body of work is a true testament to the natural approach to his beliefs of the DJ art form, and thus provides a sensational journey for the listener.
Demi's latest project and focus is on his label Eyetone Records which has quickly picked up support from his peers. Now into its 4th release, and with innovative vinyl sleeve designs to compliment his vision for the label which are now preserved at the British Library Sound Archives, Eyetone continues to quietly go about its business of releasing forward thinking underground music.
Not seduced by what is current but by what possibilities could be, we continue to see a forward thinking music man who wears his heart on his sleeve as he embarks in his next thrilling chapter, while continuing to endear to all who come across his effervescent personality. Demi's musical odyssey continues to deliver what you want, not what you expect.
