“Kitchen Staff is a photo documentary series which looks at the commercial kitchen workers of Montreal. The "back of house" cooks, chefs, dishwashers and prep staff photographed in this series, are the less visible of the restaurant workers ("front of house" servers, maître d' and bartenders are the ones who normally deal with the public).
The restaurant industry is now North America's largest private employer. Kitchen work is hard work with much staff turn-over. We see the newest waves of immigrants mixing in with students, artists, transient and more career oriented professionals. These shots were taken with a medium format film camera.”
