Pedestrian Paradise: How can we make our neighbourhoods more walkable?
Walking is a near-universal way of getting from point A to point B. From the intimacy of exploration, the creation of social spaces, or the often-touted health benefits, the advantages to walking seem significant. Yet cars, buses, and bikes tend to dominate discussions of sharing the road. Why do we pay so little attention to walking as a mode of self-powered transportation? How different would our cities be were we to prioritize the concerns of pedestrians? Can all commuters co-exist harmoniously? From safety issues to design and motivational barriers, this public conversation will explore what it would take to make our neighbourhoods more pedestrian-friendly.
