La Guilde canadienne des métiers d'art est fière de présenter LikcihikonTisserand Weaver la première exposition solo de l'artiste Wolastoq (Malécite) Shane Perley-Dutcher, en partenariat avec Terres en vues et le festival Présence autochtone. Réunissant joaillerie et sculpture, les œuvres de cet artiste sont fortement inspirées par la culture malécite de la côte est du Nouveau-Brunswick et les motifs traditionnels Mi'q Maq. Son travail, hautement personnel, renouvelle ces formes et ces motifs en créant des œuvres contemporaines uniques. Se voulant d'abord et avant tout un hommage à son peuple et à ses ancêtres, desquels il tire son inspiration et son esprit créateur, les oeuvres de Perley-Dutcher naviguent entre le devoir de mémoire et son propre questionnement identitaire. À travers son art, il cherche à approfondir la compréhension de cette culture autochtone et d'en accroître sa valorisation.
Shane Perley-Dutcher est un orfèvre de Nekootkook (Tobique), une Première Nation du Nouveau-Brunswick. Il est diplômé du New Brunswick College of Craft and Design en fabrication de bijoux / Programme art métallique avec honneurs et distinctions en 2000. La même année, il fonde Aduksis Jewellery Designs, où il fabrique des pièces d'orfèvrerie contemporaines inspirées par la tradition, en étudiant l'évolution des images et des motifs culturels propres au peuple Wolastoq (Malécite).

« L'atteinte de l'équilibre est le travail d'une vie. Mes œuvres sont le reflet des luttes de notre peuple, notre
identité, mes combats et mon identité. J'ai une vie très différente de celle de mes ancêtres. Je fais face à des défis auxquels ils n'ont pas été confrontés et vice versa. Je n'ai pas été élevé en créant des œuvres d'art traditionnelles. J'ai appris à travers mon propre cheminement artistique. La sauvegarde du savoir-faire traditionnel s'avère un combat inhérent dans la production d'œuvres par les autochtones. Mon rapport à la terre est sacré. J'en ai besoin pour mon bien-être mental et spirituel. Chaque pièce que j'ai réalisée provient de l'amour que j'éprouve pour ma culture et mon identité, que ce soit un panier en frêne, en métal ou en bouleau, un canot en écorce de bouleau, un masque fait en bois ou un bijou. »

The Canadian Guild of Crafts is proud to present Likcihikon Tisserand Weaver, the first solo exhibition by Wolastoq (Maliseet) artist Shane Perley-Dutcher, in partnership with Land InSights and Montreal First Peoples Festival. Bringing together a body of works including jewellery and sculpture, all of this artist's creations are strongly inspired by the East Coast Maliseet culture and ' traditional Mi'q Maq designs. Perley-Dutcher's highly personal work consists in participating in the renewal of such cultural images and designs by creating unique contemporary artwork. Being first and foremost a tribute to his people and ancestors, from whom he draws his inspiration and creative spirit, Dutcher's art navigates between the responsibility of remembrance and the questioning of his own identity. Through his art, he is looking to further the understanding of this unique Aboriginal culture and thus increase our appreciation of it.
Shane Perley-Dutcher is a silversmith from Nekootkook (Tobique), a New Brunswick First Nation. He graduated in 2000 from the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design, having completed the Jewellery Making / Metal Art Program with honors and distinction. Later that same year, he founded Aduksis Jewellery Designs, where he creates contemporary jewellery inspired by tradition, while studying the evolution of images and cultural designs used by the Wolastoq (Maliseet) people.

"Balance is a lifelong journey. My work reflects the struggles of our people, our Identity, my struggles, my identity. I live much differently than my ancestors. I face challenges they did not have and vice versa. I was not brought up making traditional artwork. I learned through my own artistic journey. The fight to keep traditional knowledge alive is in the production of Aboriginal Artwork itself. My connection to the land is sacred. I need the land for my spiritual and mental wellbeing. Every ash basket, metal basket, birch basket, birch bark canoe, wooden mask and piece of jewellery I've made has come from a place of love for my culture and for who I am."
