Scotian Journey, by Anne-Marie Woods, is a play written for young audiences. It is the story of a young lady named Sierra Carvery who is in her mid-20’s and excited about two things; her date with Sebastian the Poet and her yearly trip back home for the Africville reunion.
Thanks to Sierra’s vivid and active imagination she manages to summon historical people and to transform into various characters that help to tell the History of African Nova Scotians. From the Jamaican Maroons to the story of Africville from Sierra Leone to the Black Loyalists. Scotian Journey will teach you the importance of knowing your history, and addresses issues of racism and stereotypes through song, music and monologues.
